Project overview
This proposal adds 413 square feet to an existing single-family home. A new foyer and hallway connect the entrance to the room addition, while the existing kitchen, family room, bedrooms and garage remain part of the plan.
Outside, an entry canopy, pergola and patio cover give the house three distinct outdoor elements. The existing and proposed plans show how they fit around the home; elevations and sections explain how the new roof shapes meet the retained building.
Design decisions
Connect the entrance and addition
The new foyer leads into a hallway beside the room addition, with openings back to the existing family room.
Make room outside
The plan places the entry canopy, pergola and patio cover at different edges of the home, rather than treating them as one continuous structure.
Work with the existing house
The drawings distinguish the retained rooms from the new work and show the roof connections in plan, elevation and section.
